Laykin sits high on the hillside and has commanding views up and down Swaledale. From its sunny south facing position it over looks the valley floor where the river Swale meanders through glorious hay meadows which are surrounded by stone walls and dotted with the famous barns of Swaledale. The view changes as you climb the hillside to larger fields finally giving way to the heather clad moorland on the hill tops. Laykin is a superb holiday cottage and has recently been totally renovated and refurbished to a very high standard.
Discover North Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales! The cottage is perfect base from which to do this, or to escape to at any time of the year. Laykin sits in a quiet, private location with no neighbours and is approached via a farm track (not suitable for cars with very low ground clearance).
Reeth is 4 miles away with shops, galleries tearooms, pubs and restaurants arranged around a village green. The market towns of Richmond and Leyburn are worth a visit and a trip over the Buttertubs pass to Hawes is a must. The small village of Low Row has an excellent pub and is mid way along Wainwright's Coast to Coast path - Swaledale was his favourite dale! It is principally a farming community but also an old lead mining area – there are many historic remnants to see.
Laykin is a walker's paradise, there are long or short walks straight from the door. There is also fabulous cycling – bikes can be hired in Reeth. Fishing, riding and other activities are all nearby.
Inside the cottage it is modern and cosy, fully central heated with underfloor heating downstairs. All linen and towels provided and a welcome pack.
Children welcome. No smoking. No dogs.
The word Laykin is a Yorkshire word for playing or playful - ‘laykin' about means mucking or playing about! We hope that you will have ample opportunity to do this while you are on holiday.
